The 2022 Magical Kenya Open is here as action on the DP World Tour resumes following a two-week break.

Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi is the host venue for the tour’s fifth event, playing at 7,184 yards with a par of 71 for the pros. Defending champion Justin Harding of South Africa returns to the Kenyan capital to defend his title that comes with a KES37 million in first prize money. That figure is a substantial increase from the KES18 million he bagged last year when he claimed victory at the Karen Country Club.

The total prize purse up for grabs for the over 150 golfers from Kenya and around the world stands at KES227 million. That is also a significant improvement from last year's tournament purse of KES126 million. The year’s field features some 15 Kenyan players, six of whom were offered amateur exemptions and five of whom will benefit from Absa Bank’s sponsorship package for the global event.

The five Pros – Simon Ngige, David Wakhu, Mohit Mediratta, Daniel Nduva and Edwin Mudanyi – received cash tokens of KES200,000 each as part of the KES3 million from Absa Bank that aimed at enabling them meet tournament costs. The championship returns to Muthaiga for the first time since 2018 at exactly 7:20 a.m. tomorrow.
