The Board of Directors of Absa Bank Kenya Plc (“Absa Kenya”) announces the retirement of Mr. Japheth Olende as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Absa Kenya effective 22 May 2025, after seven years of exemplary service to the Board and to the business. Mr. Olende retired by rotation at the 46th Annual General Meeting and, being above the age of 70 years, did not offer himself for re-election.
Since his appointment in March 2018, Mr. Olende has consistently offered wise counsel and insightful opinions and expertise, which have contributed in shaping the Bank’s governance and strategic direction as it navigates a complex and dynamic operating environment.
As part of his role on the Board, he ably chaired the Credit Committee and served as a valuable member of the Corporate Governance, Nominations and Remuneration Committee.
We appreciate Mr. Olende for his dedicated service and leadership and celebrate his story as we wish him the very best in all his endeavours.
