The Board of Directors of Absa Bank Kenya PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Nyaoga, EBS, SC, as an Independent Non–Executive Director, effective 1 August 2025. 


Mr. Nyaoga brings with him extensive experience in corporate law and finance, commercial and civil litigation, and corporate governance, gained over more than forty years of distinguished legal practice. His proven leadership across both private and public sector boards as well as his invaluable service to national and international leadership position him as an asset to Absa Bank Kenya PLC. The board looks forward to benefitting immensely from his deep understanding of complex regulatory frameworks, risk management, and governance best practices-skills that are essential for navigating today’s dynamic financial landscape.

Currently, Mr. Nyaoga is the Senior Partner at Mohammed Muigai LLP. He also serves as Chairman of the African Development Bank Group’s Disclosure and Access to Information Appeals Panel and as an expert corporate governance trainer for the IMF. He is a frequent speaker at industry forums and previously held roles such as Chairman of the Central Bank of Kenya Board and Chair of the IMF External Experts Panel. His contributions extend widely across governance, law, and education.

Mr. Nyaoga’s academic and professional credentials include LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and certification as a Certified Public Secretary (CPS). He has also earned corporate governance certificates from the Commonwealth Association of Corporate Governance, the American Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford where he obtained a certificate in Bank Governance.
