Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)
ASL is a pioneer in the Kenyan market, being the first brokerage firm to introduce ETFs locally.
An ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) is an investment vehicle traded on a stock exchange, similar to shares. Most ETFs are passively managed index funds designed to track an index, sector, or commodity such as gold or platinum.
Key features of ETFs:
- Combine the returns of traditional tracker funds with the liquidity of listed securities
- Traded at market prices that closely reflect the net asset value of underlying assets
- Suitable as core, long-term portfolio investments
- Gains and losses arise from price changes in the underlying assets
NewGold ETF
ASL is the appointed market maker for the NewGold ETF in Kenya - the first product of its kind in the market. The NewGold ETF provides investors with exposure to international gold prices, long considered a low-risk preserver of wealth and a key portfolio diversifier.
Satrix MSCI World Feeder ETF
ASL also serves as market maker for the Satrix MSCI World Feeder Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) in Kenya. The Satrix MSCI World ETF seeks to track the performance of the MSCI World Index, providing investors with diversified exposure to large and mid-cap companies across developed global markets within a single instrument. This ETF enables Kenyan investors to access a broad basket of international equities, supporting long term portfolio growth, risk diversification across geographies and sectors, and efficient participation in global market performance.
